A family with young children adopt a puppy from a pet store with good intentions. As time goes by, the dog becomes neglected, and fails to thrive which leads to thoughts of euthanization. Instead, the father hires a person to put the dog down at their home. What is initially a story about bad decisions turns into a parable about healing, and the true value of life.

Projects Under Development

Suresh Cedrick has a couple of domestic animal stories in production, a feature documentary about street dogs, and, a  short/potential feature about the value of life. Suresh Cedrick Pereira has written these stories, and, the script is currently in development. More details about the short/feature coming. Specifics about documentary in development below.

There are nearly a billion dogs in the world, by current estimates. Perhaps an equal amount of cats. Of these, it is further estimated that as many as 80% are street dogs or strays. It is a crisis of monumental proportion. Most every country has issues, moral, political and religious, which affect their individual policies regarding what to do with this crisis. Governments in many of these countries are indifferent and uninvolved. Others enact policy of mass euthanization, encouraging hunting and killings, including horrific beating deaths. Territorially, a killed dog is just easily replaced with another, and the horrific cycle continues. Even outside of so called third world countries, dogs and cats are discarded, left to uncontrolled breeding, given to shelters after useful existences like racing institutions, and because of loss of interest, or banning of certain breeds. In the US alone, it is estimated that nearly 3 million dogs and cats are ‘euthanized’ at shelters each year. There is hope recently, however. Many countries have awakened. There is cathartic realization that not dealing with this crisis results in a never ending and costly ongoing effort. Catch, sterilize and release programs are gaining popularity. The value of life, and the minimization of animal suffering is beginning to be respected, and the cost of doing nothing is hopefully a thing of the past.

This documentary film covers the evolution that is occurring in several countries around the world regarding this epidemic. It delves into the emotion, and the effect that culture religion and politics has on this evolution.

Doing nothing isn’t an option.

Mass eradication isn’t an option.

Awakecanine tells the story, and tries to get to the bottom of what the right options are.
